Grilled cheese four ways It’s National Grilled Cheese Month! One of the best things about this tried-and-true comfort food is that you can swap in different ingredients for a completely unique sandwich every time. Here are four of our favorite grilled cheese recipes:

1. Cheddar, Apple & Bacon Grilled CheeseYou’ll need:

  • Red Barn cheddar cheese, available in our deli
  • Apple
  • Bacon
  • 2 slices of bread
  • Butter

Directions:


  1. Bake the bacon in the oven until it’s crispy.
  2. While the bacon is cooking, shred your cheddar cheese and slice your apples into wedges, removing the skin if desired.
  3. Heat the apples in a skillet for 5-10 minutes until they soften.
  4. Butter both sides of the bread.
  5. Once the bacon is crispy and the apples are soft, layer cheese, apples and bacon on one slice of bread. Top with a little bit more cheese and the second slice of bread.
  6. Cook the sandwich in a skillet on medium heat, flipping once, until cheese in melted and both sides of the bread are uniformly brown.

2. Caprese Grilled CheeseYou’ll need:

  • Fresh mozzarella cheese, available in our deli
  • Bushel Boy tomatoes, available in our produce department
  • Fresh basil, available in our produce department
  • 2 slices of bread
  • Extra virgin olive oil

Directions:


  1. Brush both sides of the bread with olive oil.
  2. Slice the tomatoes to your desired thickness.
  3. Layer cheese, tomatoes and fresh basil on one slice of bread. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Top with the second slice of bread.
  4. Cook the sandwich in a skillet on medium heat, flipping once, until cheese is melted and both sides of the bread are uniformly brown.

3. Hawaiian Grilled CheeseYou’ll need:

  • Emmental Swiss cheese, available in our deli
  • Fresh cored pineapple, available in our produce section
  • Lunds & Byerlys all natural uncured smoked ham, available in our deli
  • 2 slices of bread
  • Butter



Directions:


  1. Heat your oven to 350 F
  2. Slice the pineapple into thin sections, place on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, until softened.
  3. Butter both sides of the bread.
  4.  Layer slices of Swiss cheese, ham and pineapple on one slice of bread. Top with the second slice of bread.
  5. Cook the sandwich in a skillet on medium heat, flipping once, until cheese is melted and both sides of the bread are uniformly brown.

4. Jalapeño, Avocado & Raspberry Grilled CheeseYou’ll need:

  • Marieke Jalapeño Gouda, available in our deli
  • Avocado
  • Raspberry jam
  • 2 slices of bread
  • Butter

Directions:


  1. Butter both sides of the bread.
  2.  Peel and cut the avocado into thin slices.
  3. On one slice of bread, spread a thin layer of raspberry jam.
  4. Layer slices of jalapeño gouda and avocado on top of the jam. Top with the second slice of bread.
  5. Cook the sandwich in a skillet on medium heat, flipping once, until cheese is melted and both sides of the bread are uniformly brown.
